Auto Electronics: Power Window Problem, monte carlo ss, chevy monte carlo

Question
Hi Donald,
I own a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. My Driver side Power Window doesnt wrk. I replace the Regulator the motor and it still wont work. The thing that seem to keep occuring is that the driver side switch is keep burning out,but the funny thing about the driver side switch is that u can still control the passenger side window with the switch that is burn out, its only burns out the driver side window control on the switch. I change the switch 3 times already and the same things keep occuring. i change the motor and regulator 3 times to see if that was the problem and i cant seem to find out why these switches are burning up. I cant find a fuse box for the window to see if that was the cause, I think if that was the cause the switch wouldn't be able to operate the passenger window. Donald please help im tired not having the freedom to get fresh air from my driver side

Answer
Rico, I believe you have replaced everything but the wiring. With a problem like this, where the same component keeps going bad, a more thorough inspection and testing procedure is needed. Not knowing what tools you posses. I will tell you first to inspect the wiring and connections, especially those at the switch and motor. Any increased resistance in a DC motor circuit can cause the motor to draw excessive current which will eventually burn out the switch and or the motor. The power and ground feeds to the switch are known to be good, because the passenger side window works well. You need to concentrate on the circuit between the switch and motor. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage drop from the switch input (yellow wire) to the motor wires (blue and brown). Depending on the switch position (up or down) you should see a drop of less than 0.2 volts.  Don't forget that sometimes new parts are defective. New stands for Never Ever Worked! Good luck. Don.
