Cadillac Repair: 82 eldorado issues, SIU auto theft claim expert, auto theft expert

Question
I have an 82 eldorado with the ht4100. Car shut off while driving. Fuel pump fuse blew. Several days later it shut off on me again while driving. The fuse didnt blow. Cant start back up. Changed filter, sending unit, and fuel pump. Try to start but nothing. Fuse blew somehow maybe while trying to start it? Changed fuse car fired right up. Filled the tank up. Drove great all across town. Went home and about 5 hours later was leaving to go out again and car wouldnt start. I kept turning the key til it came on and i could drive it around. A couple times it wanted to shut off but didnt. When i parked it i couldnt start it back up. Fuses and relays r good. Whats wrong with my car???? Notice no gas in my injectors?

Answer
Hello,

What you problem sounds like to me is that you have a bare wire in the fuel pump harness. That would account for it running then driving (wires moving around and blowing the fuse. It would also account for it not getting fuel without blowing the fuse. If you follow the harness into the trunk and forward, I think you are going to find a broken wire that is hitting metal and possibly broken and going back together by movement of the car.

I think when you find it, it will be obvious.
Cut it, replace with same gauge wire, strip and use butt connectors. If under car, make sure wires are tough. Take each end of butt connector and fill with clear silicone to prevent the elements from getting into the connectors. Tape good with electrical tape.

Is that why you changed the filter and sending unit assly chasing down this problem?

Many figure, I can fix this, only to have the problem not fixed. Yes, it has happened to me a time or two. You needed a fuel filter anyway no loss.

This brake could be in the snake as I call it plastic cover they put over the harness. Could be pinched.

Let me know what you find.
