Cadillac Repair: driver window & brakes, key of the proper type, last key used

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1983 cadillac fleetwood brougham that has been sitting for 3 years untill recently. We are trying to fix it up for my son to drive because he like these old cars for some reason. The issue we are having is for one, the drivers window switch just stopped working on us the other day. Yet all the other window switches still work. Was wondering how to fix it or where to start looking to narrow down the problem? The other question is the brakes go all the way to the floor. We put brand new rotors and pads on the front, but have not looked at the back because of our lack of knowledge with drum brakes. My question is what could cause the pedal going to the floor before it works and how tuff is it to work on drums? Thanks for your help rob

ANSWER: Hello,

I need a picture of the driver's side switch assembly at the door panel to refresh my memory as to how to remove the switch assembly.

As for drum brakes, they are very easy to work on. You could have a blown out wheel cylinder in the rear, easily identified just by looking under the rear of the car at the steel backing plates (completely opposite side of the front of the wheel). You will see fluid or stains from a leaking cylinder.
You did not tell me where you are located. If in the rust belt like the midwest, other problems may exist like rusty lines that broke through.

If there are no obvious leaks, you have a leaking master cylinder. Brake fluid will leak into the brake booster rotting out the rubber seals and you may not have power assist when you replace the master.

Without knowing what you are dealing with, the repair can cost as little as $150.00 to very expensive. There is no reason a novice can't fix the brakes, but unless I know exactly what the issues are, I cannot help you diagnose.

Send a photo of the driver's door panel fist looking downward on the driver's door switch assembly and let me know if you are in a area prone to road salt.4

QUESTION: As for the brakes, they do not leak any fluid. So I think it is a master cylinder problem like you say. In that case I will just take it to a brake shop and let the experts fix the problem. As for the window switch. I will be sending you a picture from my phone to the email address you have listed. Keep in mind that all the other window switches do work on the other doors. And all the other switches do work on the driver door, only the driver window does not work.

Answer
Hi,

This is from my associate who has a better memory than me.

I THINK you remove the chrome behind the handle, and remove light lens, then some screws under the switch assembly, MikeI
