Question
my 95 eldog is hard to start and when it starts, it idles rough. it reads engine overheated, engine coolant hot, and stop engine when i get it to start.

Answer
Hello,

Possibly you think I may not know what an Eldog is, but I owned many Eldorados and that is the street name for them.

It sounds like something is going on with the sensors in the engine and I am wondering,if in fact it had been previously overheated. If previously over heated, the hard start rough running could be from a blown head gasket.

The very first thing to do here is to check the cooling system to see if there is any anti-freeze or coolant (what ever your regeion call it) is present not only in the overflow bottle, but the radiator as well.

You need to check the oil to see if it is a white milky color, telling you there is a breach in the crankcase from the cooling system. When running, is white smoke coming from the tail pipe?

Your description does sound like a blown head gasket.

Check what I suggested and get back with me.
