Cadillac Repair: 88 Cadillac Sedan De Ville, Denver plaintiffs forensic locksmith, kansas city plaintiffs forensic locksmith

Question
QUESTION: I recently looked under my hood to check the engine oil level and the dipstick went missing. I bought a new dipstick that can be longer or shorten. I couldn't find the dipstick measurement for my Cadillac, so I was wondering if you would be able to help me out.

ANSWER: Hello,

Wow-how can you ever know if it is accurate?

This is no good! Take it back if you can. Go to a junk yard and see if you can find a 1982-1989 Deville, Eldo, Seville or Allante. They should all have the 4.1 (4100) engine in them. Grab an oil stick from one of them, or try Evay for one you that you don't have to cut off.

The argument may be insert the stick in the tube until it bottoms some how where you can mark it on the bottom side and cut it off after it is removed. I would tell the inventor of this one size fits all an idiot!

You did not say where you purchased it. I hope not a dealer. You need one exact length for the engine unless you have the old one which you don't in order to be accurate.

You also need to change the oil once you get a stick, because the hole may be small, but you don't know what type of debris has entered into the engine.

QUESTION: Another thing, it just hit me, would a 82-89 Fleetwood dipstick work as well?

How about the Tranny Oil Dipstick? would that be the same measurement?

Answer
Hello,

Oil dipstick from another 4100 should set you up. They are the same configuration, however I do not know if the oil pan is the same from the Deville to the Seville. Check with the dealer if the oil pan is the same part number if so, your all set.

As far as using a trans dipstick for oil, you will find it too large to fit in the tube.

You stated 82-89 fleetwood and I would need to add to this the year range would be 85-89 because the little front wheel drives started in 1985.
