Cadillac Repair: ABS Light, Toledo forensic locksmith, detroit forensic locksmith

Question
I have a 91 Deville in which the ABS light remains on constantly. At first the brakes would grab and the light would be intermittent but it has now settled to a constant light with no brake grab. I've inspected the ABS sensor lines from all four wheels and have found that both front lines seem to be perished around where the plastic sheathing joins onto the hub connection. The brakes don't seem to be compromised in any way. Is it possible that the two lines are shorting and causing the light to remain on?
Another problem is a fuel data problem - unit changes its readings - between mpg, fuel remaining and average and trips the change oil light - I'm assuming faulty data centre?
Also does the 91 model have an interior light delay when the door is closed or does it go out immediately?
Apart from these problems, and replacing the engine mounts the vehicle has been a gem - even a self done retrofit on the A/C. Seals were not replaced and zero problems with sensors and no leaks detected under ultra violet. Only changes were the valves for refill.
This vehicle will be exported to Australia in 2013 whereas it will need to be in as near perfect condition as possible with possibility of change over to Right Hand Drive.
Thanking you in advance for any help that I can't obtain from a service manual.

Answer
Hi Greg,

You are going to need to test for fault codes for the abs. This is the very old system and I don't think you can hook a scanner to it. It wasn't  til 1994 when the system changed to the OBD II standard where codes could be searched for with a plug-in scanner.

I seem to remember on the plug below the steering wheel that to test for error codes a wire was needed to touch 2 terminals together and the air bag light would flash in two seperate flashes diagnosIng the problem.

Otherwise you are guesing at what the problem is.
I no longer remember which terminals in the plug to touch. This was 20 years ago. The same holds true for the dome light. I think I remember the dome gradually going out about a minute after the door was closed.

As for your digital issues, I just don't remember.

You would be best off going to http://www.alldata.com and paying the $25 to become a member. You can download all the factory manuals for this car or spend hundreds and countless hours looking. I am not trying to sell you anything and I get nothing for the plug, but it is where I go for specific information.

You stated you were going to take this car to Austrailia. No matter how good it is, I would not take one of these out of the country because of parts availability.

One other point-unless you just have tons of cash laying around to waste, converting to right hand drive on this car would be no small chore and could cost thousands and thousands of dollars. Money you would never recover in the event of a crash.

Buy something there. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.

If the engine overheats, the engine in many cases is junk. This is a 4.5 or a 4.9. I don't even know if a new engine is still available from GM here!

All used engines are suspect at the least and highly likely to be overheated junk. This is an aluminum engine.

They are a nice car, but all too often, even on much newer cars, parts are not available overseas. In fact, many countries only have a couple of dealers if any.

It may be a great car, but I sure would not consider taking a 1982-2010 Cadillac overseas just because of the overheating potential. All you need to do is blow a hose, have a waterpump fail, by the time you shut it down, its all over!

This is a notorious Cadillac problem. Look at my archives and then you rxasterbate it with being in a different country. Not a good idea.

In fact, of all cars, Cadillac and the aluminum engine would not be a consideration for me overseas.
