Cadillac Repair: 1990 Cadillac Deville stalled out while driving, wont start, fuel filter replacement, cadillac deville

Question
My 1990 Cadillac Deville 4.5L V8 stalled out while driving last week. Has around 120K miles. It had been running a little rough lately; stalling sometimes at stop lights and when I slowed down faster than I wanted to when I was "low" (couple of gallons in tank) on gas, feeling like it was losing power driving up inclines, and sometime just feeling like it was losing power at certain speeds. Towed car home, engine would start for a second then stall right out. Replaced fuel filter, which was clogged, and since then i wont start up at all, even for a second, just a very strong EH EH EH EH EH. Seems to be cranking but not starting, where it would at least sometimes start for a second and stall out before the fuel filter replacement. Battery is new, alternator newer... any suggestions? All help appreciated, thanks!!!

Answer
Hello,

My first concern is that fuel filter was clogged. If it was clogged, what does the tank look like?

It sounds at minumum you will have to drop the tank. Have it boiled out or put a new tank in. Install new fuel pump. Remove filter and blow air from tank to fuel filter. Hopefully your new filter is not plugged as well.

By the time the garbage is plugging the filter, it already is telling you there is a serious restriction before the filter.
