Cadillac Repair: 1990 DeVille Insterment Panel, Los angeles forensic locksmith, california natfs reports

Question
QUESTION: My girlfriends dad has a 90 DeVille and has had some dash and interior lighting problems. I told him to bring it over and I can see what I could do for him as to find the problem. Here is the story...

Speedo Works

No fuel tank reading

all other info on dash reads 8's

Climate control does its own thing apparently

and for the first 30 seconds or so he says that the 'reading' lights in the car flash a certain amount of times about three times but stops once you start to drive it.

He already reset the computer apparently..

Thank you.

ANSWER: Hello,

There is a good chance it has a bad ecm or cluster. Reading 8s is not good.

Why did he reset the computer? Because of the 8s or something else?

Generally, if the cluster is lighting up 8's it goes back to the cluster or computer because this shows the cluster is powered up.

I don't any longer have diagnostics for a 20 year old car.

If you want to get all manuals on the car you can go to http://www.alldata.com, pay about $25 to be a member and dowload all the info for a year.

When I need answers for diagnoses of a specific vehicle, this is where I go.

QUESTION: Okay finally talked to him and got some more info that I want to get your take on.

When starting the car the reader lamps (The ones above your head) blink 50 times for three sets. So 150 all together and it is always 50, that leads me to think that it is the ECM. What do you think?

Answer
Hello,

As I stated before this car is about 15 years too old for me to have any diagnostic information on. If I. Had the information I would gladly share it the car is simply too old  and I don"t know of techs that have this information.

Guessing on these will get you replacing parts it does not need with extensive labor, sometimes for nothing.

I gave you the site I would go to if it were my car.

Everything you need is there and the price is cheap.

I cannot agree with you that it is a ecm problem because I am not at the car with the schematics and the diagnostic flow charts from all data.

I am sorry, but Ican't help you because of those reasons.
