Cadillac Repair: 1996 cadillac sts, electric fuel pumps, electric fuel pump

Question
Hi, I ran out of gas. When I put gas in the car wouldn't start. I primed the intake with starter fluid and it started. But it wouldn't keep running without covering the air intake. the only code that came up was a misfire code. I changed the air mass sensor and it has the same problem(will run for 5-10 seconds) but now the code that comes up is the air mass sensor code. I put the old one back in and same thing except now it pulls up a service emissions code. what could this possibly be?
Thanks

Answer
Hello,

From my experience with these electric fuel pumps inside the tank, if they cavitate for only a matter of seconds without fuel and the fuel pump is running with the ignition on, the fuel pump will fry!

Change the pump, clear the codes and you should be
good to go.

If you vcontinue to change good parts, you will get more phantom codes and the engine still will not run.

You can never run out of gas with an electric fuel pump.
