QuestionQUESTION: can you help me with the kick down transmission system for a 66 Cadillac deville.When I am doing 30-50 mph, and floor it, the car does not shift into overdrive. I have checked the kickdown solenoid at the carb, with a continuity check and the hot line and the two going to the trans show to be live when i engage the solenoid pin.
ANSWER: The only other possibility is an internal transmission fault.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response on the trans question. Another question I have is on the 1966 sentinal headlight lighting system. What occurs when i turn the headlights on at dusk, they only stay on a few minutes. I have placed the sentinal lever control in many positions and have the same issue . Any prior experience with this in the older Cadillacs ? light switch or photocell issue? If so, How can you tell which one is the problem? Also do you know if there is a photo cell for this system and where it would be located in a 66 caddy?
AnswerI gather you are referring to when at dusk the headlights should come ON and stay ON until the vehicle is shut off. CORRECT ?.
If this is correct, The sensor is located on top of the dash near the defroster duct. Make SURE that there is nothing on the dash that is covering this photo-cell.
In 99% of all cases the photo-cell is faulty and the photo-cell and the controller box MUST be replaced together as they are a matched set.
