Question
QUESTION: Please help!! My 1996 Caddy Concourse will shift from first to second. The problem occurs from that point- it wont shift to drive or overdrive. Would this problem be related to the shift solenoids? If so, where is this located on the trany? Thanks Tim

ANSWER: The FIRST thing I need to know is , IS or HAS the check engine light on the dash ever illuminated while driving the vehicle ?.

If it has, Do you know how to retrieve the CODES from the computers via your CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL ?.

QUESTION: In response to your questions; the check engine light is on, and I don't know how to check the codes. I thank you for your fast response. Also, where is the shift solenoid located?

Answer
The shift solenoids are located behind the transmission side cover behind the drivers front wheel assembly.

To check for CODES:

1. Turn ignition key ON. Do NOT start the engine.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER (fan up) buttons for 3 seconds and then release them.

3. On the fuel data display you will see a combination of LETTERS & NUMBERS appear followed by the word HISTORY or CURRENT for EACH CODE that displays.

4. The display will stop at PCM? Turn ignition key OFF.

tell me EXACTLY what appears on the fuel data display.
