Cadillac Repair: 1992 sedan de ville not starting, mobile mechanics, lock cylinder

Question
My vehicle is a 92 sedan de ville touring edition 4.9 liter. in april/may of last year, it frequently would not start...turn key, silence..lights come on, radio, seatbelt dings, leveler all else working just fine. replaced battery in may, stopped doing it more or less through sept. started doing it again more frequently through oct./nov. & just stopped starting at all in mid dec. took battery got it charged & it wouldn't start still.started fine the next day. then day after would not start again. it has been a 9 month crap shoot as to when it will start. have had a few mobile mechanics out that just make an excuse to leave & never call, come back, etc. from limited ability of neighbor found out that the starter is running 12 volts fine, could not examine further though?? I am at a loss because my mechanic says he can't fix it if it won't do it in front of him & it starts every dang time when he is present. Please help, I'm going nuts!! :)

Answer
I am at a loss because my mechanic says he can't fix it if it won't do it in front of him & it starts every dang time when he is present.

Unfortunately, If it ain't broke when you come to fix it all you can do is GUESS as to what it could be and you can replace part after part until you hit the part that has the intermittent failure.

There are numerous possibilities that it could be:

Ignition key lock cylinder.
PASS-KEY module.
starter relay.

These ARE the most common. But until it does it when the technician has it in his posession, All you can do is GUESS.

However the most common fault is the key lock cylinder.
