Cadillac Repair: 1995 Seville SLS control head, seville sls, climate control

Question
I just got a 95 SLS with 69k miles from a friend. The car has sat for about a year, but before that he only put about 1500 miles on it in the last 5 yrs. I am having a few problems, nothing major but still problems. The one big one is the control head (buttons on both sides of the instrument cluster) is unresponsive at times. I will start the car and it will be all metric, and temperature and DIC buttons are unresponsive. then i will start the car and it is in English but all buttons still unresponsive. Then after driving the car for a while(sometimes 15 min sometime 2 hrs) the buttons will start working and I'll be able to change from metric to english and all of the controls for the temperature start working. Any ideas? I just got the car thru inspection and will start driving it a little more, but would like to know if there is anything I could do to possibly solve this? I tried hooking up a OBD-1 reader but it said it couldn't communicate with the computer, this was while the buttons were unresponsive.

Answer
You can obtain any CODES via the climate control panel by performing this procedure:

FIRST: ALL the climate control buttons MUST be working.

SECOND: the fuel data display panel MUST be working as this is where your codes will appear.

If BOTH items above are operable:

1. Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Do NOT start the engine.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER (^) buttons on the climate control panel for
  3 seconds and release them.

3. Immediately look at the fuel data display and you will see a combination of LETTERS & NUMBERS
appear on the fuel data display and then the display will stop at PCM?

4. Tell me EXACTLY what appears on the fuel data display just as if you were video taping it.

5. Push and release the AUTO button on the climate control panel.

6. Turn ignition key OFF.
