Towing Issues: towing from a parking garage, flatbed tow trucks, parking garages

Question
Richard, I park my SUV in a parking garage at work and recently faced the possibility of needing to have the vehicle towed out. Fortunately we finally determined what the problem was and were able to drive the vehicle out. BUT- if this ever comes up again (knock on wood it doesn't!) how is this done, especially when the car is pulled forward into a space and can't be towed from the front until removed from the space? Obviously a wrecker that put the vehicle up on the bed won't work. Can a dolly, like what goes behind an RV, be used to move it from the space and towed out? There is not much ceiling in the garage, just a little over 8'. How do tow services handle this? I'm sure it's happened to someone!
Thank you for any info. you can provide.

Answer
Well, this can get to be a complicated answer but tow companies as a general practice are fairly good at removing vehicles from parking garages.. I have towed vehicles from parking garages as low as 6'6" and from multi story garages both above and below ground level.

You are correct that flatbed tow trucks do not work in parking garages, and the tow dolly that you describe is not what we use.

Some companies have special trucks for "low clearance parking garages" and some just resort to old school approaches,  push the vehicle out, or pull it out with another vehicle...

We have many methods, it just depends on what is needed.
