I am wondering how I can tell if my water pump isn't working proper. Also at idle the top radiator hose is getting real firm with pressure. I would appreciate any info. Thanks alot

Answer
I was wondering WHY you wanted to by-pass the heater core.

Excessive coolant pressure in this particular engine is in most cases due to combustion chamber pressure getting into the coolant system which will restrict the normal flow of coolant thru the engine.

This is a very very well known problem which is caused by stretched aluminum threads within the engine block causing the head gaskets to leak the combustion chamber pressure into the coolant system.

There are numerous manufacturer's factory service bulletins addressing this problem which requires pulling the heads off and drilling out the engine block head bolt holes and installing steel heli-coils and different head bolts and replacing the head gaskets.
