Cadillac Repair: 96 Deville Northstar, battery cable, elderly couple

Question
I purchased a 96 deville with the northstar motor with 68,000 miles on it from an elderly couple recently. The car was into the dealer many times with impeckable service records, with one re-occuriing problem, that has now surfaced on me. The car starts perfectly in the morning, however once up to temp it does not start cleanly, has a stumble, can give a little gas and seems to help. The other day while driving the car shut off totally. This car has been taken to the dealer several times on this problem and yet still re-occurs. I took it to a friends shop and he is generally able to fix anything,he cannot get a code to come up under any circumstance and called the dealer that had the car before. He tells me that the dealer thinks the computer may need re-programming. I have heard that a positive battery cable could even be the culpret here. The  dealer wants me to bring it in for diagnostics,,,and take it from there. Can you shed any light on this,I dont feel as though I am going to get any where with the dealer except maybe a Paid shot in the dark.....Thanks Paul

Answer
He tells me that the dealer thinks the computer may need re-programming.

The above sentence is a catch all phrase that means they have NO CLUE and or don't want to take the time to run the diagnostic test procedures necessary to find and fix the problem.

Can you get me a list of EVERYTHING that was worked on with the vehicle ?.
