Mazda: no power, spark plug wires, mazda miata

Question
I left the roof down on my 2002 Mazda Miata and it poured all night long. I soaked up as much water as I could from the interior of the car and have been running fans directly on the interior. The car would at least turn over yesterday, but it would only stay on for about 10 seconds.  I checked all the appropriate fuses. I tried putting gas directly into the air intake, yesterday.  I also tried putting starting fluid directly into the air intake, today.  I tried starting it in gear, out of gear, with the gas pedal, without the gas pedal.  The battery light is coming on when I try to start the car but I didn't try jumping it because of the warning in the manual about not being able to jump a 12 volt with a 24 volt battery.  Also, I can get the power windows to go up and down.  I read online that problems arising from moisture might require you to check your distributor cap and spark plug wires.  But I didn't see these in the car manual and I can't seem to locate them in the car.  What suggestions do you have?

Answer
Hi Mary and thanks for the excellent question.  I would hesitate to even trying to answer due to the problems it might cause.  First, manual is correct never use a 24v battery to jump a 12v.  Several reasons including might burn out 12v battery, might cause severe sparking which you do not, repeat DO NOT, want in your engine compartment.  As to other problems I would suggest you call your local Mazda dealer and speak to a service advisor.  I have had several Miatas and have had them soaked on a regular basis but have not had this severe of a problem.  Might be something as simple as a circuit breaker or fuse or might be as complicated as computer damage.  Best of luck and let me know what you found out.  Bud
