Cadillac Repair: cadillac 96 emission system, chasing ghosts, code tester

my car's service engine came on today and it said service emission system i was told that it could be that i got bad gas or that my gas cap wasn't tighten what do u think?

Guessing does no good because there are over 50 items that can cause this symptom. To know exactly what is wrong, you can go out an by a code tester for minor money at a parts store or you can take the vehicle to a service center and have the computer scanned. Anything short of this is chasing ghosts and a waste of time on your part.
