Cadillac Repair: fan not working, fuse boxes, auto service centers

Question
On my cateria the fan used to stay on after the car was shut off and now its not working what may be wrong.

Answer
Hello,

This is a very general question for something that needs a specific answer.

The simple check would make sure the fuse for the blower is good. You need to check your owner's manual for exact locations of fuse boxes and where the fuse would be located.

From your description, I would suspect the possibility of two other problems. Cadillac for close to 25 years has used a resistor module that was known to fail. A bad module would cause the fan to keep running when the car is shut off, sometimes enough to kill the battery for the next morning. Very expensive!!! Years ago, in the Eldos and Sevilles, the module cost $300-$400 bucks just for the part!

It could be the motor finally self destructed internally as well.

If it is not a fuse, I am afraid you will need to take the car to a repair shop. Don't go to Cadillac and get double gouged! Many larger auto service centers are capable of diagnosing your problem.

Things are no longer simple. There are many computers and printed circuit boards that can fail.

What would really suck is a bad printed circuit board on the heater blower module causing the blower motor to be bad now from running as much as it did.

I wish you the best.
