Cadillac Repair: Remote

Question
I have a 1995 Cadillac Seville SLS,my remote stopped working,so after properly changing the battery, I tried to synchronize the remote,by standing next to drivers door and holding down both lock&unlock buttons for 3 seconds, with no luck. The remote will not open trunk or doors or put on interior light or set the alarm. What can I check or do next.I reviewed all your past questions with this not being addressed. Thank you Jim

Answer
Hello,

This may not sound like expert advice, but please remember it has been close to 15 years since I reprogrammed factory remote transmitters.

I Would suggest going to a dealer or alarm store, talking with a tech and giving him a six pack to program it for you.

This from my experience works well for getting information on these situations that don't require repair and parts.

I assure you sir, my answer of a six pack was not a joke. You would be surprised what you can get done at a dealer with a little kindness.

I do know what I am talking about. I was a tech and a service manager for 11 years at a dealership. Especially now, with the techs at GM dealers and Chrysler dealers losing their jobs.

Commonly, you could take the tech to the side, ask him questions and for something he would tell you what you need to know.

You gave me a 3 for knowledge and I do not appreciate it. You obviously have not ever attempted to take my suggestions. I know a lot, but sometimes I just plain don't remember an incident that happened 14 years ago when it came to programming factory remotes. This information was not significant to me because it was rare that we had to do this. When I don't know something, I try to share the knowledge I have by directing you to someone that has the specific answer to your problem.

The other option is to go to the dealer and have the car written up and pay a couple hundred bucks.
