Question
I have a 98 DeVille that i have recently put an after market stereo into. my alarm comes on when i try to start my car. how do i fix this, and where is the fuse for the alarm system so i can disable it until i do get it fixed?

Answer
hello,

You did not state if you were refering to an after market alarm or a factory installed alarm.

If the headlights are flashing and the horn is sounding, this is a factory alarm problem and you installed the stereo into the factory wiring for the factory alarm.

Its so common that people think there is no big deal to disabling the factory alarm just by removing a fuse. It is not that easy and it is common to find many different circuits wired into the factory installed alarm system.

Its all to common to find if you can disconnect the alarm fuse, so many other things will not work as well.

If you are looking for the location of this fuse, the owners manual may tell you where it is located.

If you are hearing a siren or the parking lights flash, you are dealing with an after market system. If you look under the driver's dash after you remove the black plastic hush panel, you should see the after market alarm module. Either disconnect it or remove the in-line power fuse.
