Cadillac Repair: 1994 Caddy Eldorado trunk lid, amp fuse, fuse box

Question
My 1994 Caddy Eldorado trunk lid will not automatically retract when the trunk lid is closed. Is there a way to check if to see if the motor is bad or is it in the mechinism. Also, is there a way to retract the automatic latch and just open and close the trunk lid with the key. Thank You. Rick Brown

Answer
Hi Rick,

Check your owner's manual for fuse box locations and check all fuses.

You can pull out the plastic trim in the trunk opposite the tail lights and see if there is a seperate fuse there. I believe you will find a blue 15 amp fuse there.
That will rule out everything as far as the electrical if you have power to the pull down motor.

I have a bad pull down motor in my 84' Eldo. I have done the following to keep from buying a motor.

If you look below the trunk lid with it raised you will see the latch. There are two or three bolts mounting to the latch. You will see the latch is slotted. Loosen the bolts and push the latch all the way up. Tighten the bolts. Close the trunk. If it takes too much effort to close, loosen and pull down a little. Tignten again until you get the trunk lid to seal and close decently.
