Cadillac Repair: suspension lubrication, head gasket problems, mint cond

Question
QUESTION: just bought a 93 deville as a second car mint cond 114000 well maintained miles. my question is when i had the car on the lift i noticed what i though were grease fittings on the upper ball joints. is this true? and if it is are these the only parts of the suspension that can be greased? also what is your opinion of the 4.9? it seems to run very well; how's the durabilty? any little tricks or quirks that i should know about? thanks for your time.

ANSWER: Those ARE the ONLY grease fittings.

My personal and professional opinion of the Cadillac engines is not what you want to hear. Around this mileage they tend to have head gasket problems which is caused by the head bolts stretching the threads out of the aluminum engine block which will require heli-coils to be installed.

This IS a very expensive repair.

QUESTION: hi i have one more ques for you. can the drum brakes on my 93 deville be adjusted and if they can would it give me more pedal feel? i just put new pads and rotors in but never checked the back drums. do 93 devilles have that little wheel on the rear brakes like most other cars do?

ANSWER: If you look you will see that the back brakes have discs and rotors just like the front and they are non-adjustable.

QUESTION: you seem to think i have 4 wheel disc;i dont; front disck rear drums. are the rears adjustable?

Answer
My apologies, I was NOT thinking 93 year model.

Yes, You CAN adjust the rears via the little windows but most likely the adjusters are frozen and you need to remove the whell and the drum and clean the adjusters. If you would like to obtain pictures showing you HOW, E-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com
