Cadillac Repair: 1991 Cadillac DeVille, electric fuel pump, spark plug wires

Question
QUESTION: This car has been setting for about a yr.New battery has been installed, starter is good.Still the car wont crank up.All fuses are good.Is there a relay?Where is it?

ANSWER: Does the engine turn over when you try and start the car but it just won't start ?.

First you need to establish if you are getting spark to the spark plugs. Remove one of the spark plug wires and hold it approx 1/4" away from any metal surface and have someone try and start the engine and see if you get a spark from the wire you disconnected.

Second, Remove the gas cap. Have someone listen at the gas cap opening as you turn the ignition key to the ON position ONLY, Do NOT try and start the engine. The person listening at the gas tank opening should hear the electric fuel pump run (buzz) for 2 seconds and then stop, Does it ?.

Answer
OK, What you have is either a fault with the PASS-KEY security system and or a fault in the starter relay.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need a DIGITAL MULTIMETER, Simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
