Cadillac Repair: 1991 Cadillac El Dorado 4.9, cadillac el dorado, voltage spikes

Question
What do I need to check when my panel states "battery volts high".  The battery voltage spikes anywhere from 14.0v to 16.2v?
Which part(s) should I look into?

You need to IMMEDIATELY STOP using this vehicle as you will start to FRY electronic parts and remove the alternator from the vehicle and take it into any auto parts store and have it tested.

You either have a problem internally with the alternator or a problem in the FIELD wire that goes into the instrument cluster and then into the computer.


If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need a DIGITAL MULTIMETER, Simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture.
