Cadillac Repair: fast idle, coolant temperature, throttle positioning sensor

Question
Sometimes my 1996 Sedan de Ville with the Northstar refuses to slow to the proper idle speed after a long trip.  It stays up at 2000 until I shut off the engine and restart it.  Also the coolant temperature after a trip is at 105C or 106C.  Is that normal..

Answer
Your high idle is most likely caused by the throttle positioning sensor and or the idle speed control motor.

The temp of 105 to 106C is just fine.
