Cadillac Repair: 1996 Cadillac Concours Shift Problem, mechanic shops, external speed

Question
Hello--my 96 Concours (4.9) will not shift into high range (over drive). I have heard many different solutions but the speed sensor comes up the most. I have two mechanic shops to choose from here in the middle of no where and one says it is in the transmission and the other says it is located outside the transmission. Do you have the correct answer? Thank you very much. Mike

Answer
If you had an external speed sensor fault, You would have no speedometer working and the shifting would be erratic.

Your problem is most likely an internal failure of the TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID (TCC) solenoid.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
