Cadillac Repair: 1999 deville, air struts, e mail

Question
QUESTION: i have a 1999 deville. i need to know if i have struts or shocks on my deville to change them. my car is ride really low in the back and i want to rise it up?

ANSWER: You have air struts. The most common fault is the HEIGHT SENSOR which senses the rear height of the vehicle and turns ON the air pump to put air into the struts to level out the vehicle.

To perform a test:

1. Turn ignition switch ON. Do NOT start the engine.

3. Put a minimum of 300 lbs (or my wife) in the trunk and see if you can hear the air pump run and feel the rear of the vehicle rising. There may be a 30 to 45 second DELAY between the time you put the weight in the trunk and the time you hear the pump and feel the rear rise.

Just kidding on the MY WIFE part. She only weighs 175 lbs.
