Cadillac Repair: Re: 92 deville AC Compressor/Cruise Control, definite diagnosis, humid weather

Question
QUESTION: I've had my 92 deville in the shop to repair AC that doesn't work.  Mechanic went through all possible tests to locate trouble.  His opinion is the AC Compressor needs to be replaced.  I read your previous related questions/replies and all say the CRUISE CONTROL will not work if the AC COMPRESSOR is the source of the trouble.  MY cruise control works fine....should I go to another mechanic?  This is getting expensive.  I'm grateful for your reply.

ANSWER: The cruise control will NOT work if the CHECK ENGINE light on the dash is illuminated.

IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light and or the LOW REFRIGERANT light ever illuminated or displayed on the dash while driving the vehicle. ?

QUESTION: Nope...never..neither one.  He tried to put in freon but that didn't work out so mechanic checked all.  When he hot wired AC compressor...it went on.  He's afraid if he puts in a new compressor it might work for a week then stop due to a leak somewhere. I'm really in need of the AC because of breathing problem in humid weather but I'm on a fixed income and would like to have a more definite diagnosis.  Again, thanks.

Answer
Your fault could be any one of the sensors or simply the AC relay.

You will need simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
