Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding mower wont start, lawn mower parts solenoid starter discountonlineparts lawnmower small engines

Question
I have a 2000 husky yth 180 riding motor that I am trying to bring back to
life after almost 3 years of storage.  It started right up and drove but since I
turned it off it just makes a clunk when I turn the key.  I replaced the
solenoid but it still won't send power through to the starter.  There are two
small connections on the solenoid as well and am wondering what they do  if
they could be the problem.  Have wire brushed all connections and all wiring
looks intact.  What should I do?
Also, I took the ohv cover off and some oil leaked out-is that normal?  This
mower has a hydrostatic tranny and two different sized tires on the back.  Is
that okay?   Thanks a lot!!

Answer
Hi Lael, if the solenoid is "clunkying" then power is getting to it. Check your battery for full charge. + 12 volts DC. and check the ground to battery and solenoid. One of the small connections is a ground, the other the activation wire from the switch. If the tires are the same overall diameter, then it won't cause any real harm. But if they are different O.D.'s then it can cause a malfunction and overheating of trans. Oil leaking from OHV cover is normal.  If you need to replace your solenoid or any other lawn mower parts then we have what you need at http://www.discountonlineparts.com/lawnmower/
