Cadillac Repair: 1989 deville ac replacement, climate control system, heater control valve

Question
QUESTION: After reading a question regarding a similar situation I'm having I sent you an e-mail for details of repairing my vehicles ac system.

But, there are other issues I am having, which may be related to each other:

1.  Rapidly flashing the high beams several times causes the climate control system to come on in "DEFROST" mode with fan on "HIGH", as well as the rear window defroster.

2.  The fuel usage display repeatedly displays erroneous information (ie. 6 gallons of fuel = 426 miles range or 6 gallons = "L" range).

3. "CHECK ENGINE" light goes on and off repeadly but doesn't stay on.

4. "ENGINE TEMP COOLING FAN" light goes on and off repeatedly but doesn't stay on.  Coolant level is full and fan appears to cycle.

Any ideas?

ANSWER: The first thing you need to do is retrieve the codes from the computer via:

1. ignition ON. Engine NOT running.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them.

3. Tell me everything you see on the fuel data display until you see .7.0 on the display.

4. turn ignition OFF.

Have you had ANY type of work performed by anyone or yourself on the vehicle recently and if so, What was done ?.

QUESTION: Display:  .F  F32  .FF

I should note that I bought this "used" vehicle from a local who said it belonged to his sickly father-in-law and was in "TOP" condition.  The A/C worked for all of about a week before it started to malfunction.

The only work I have done personally were replacing the brake pads and the heater control valve.

I had the cooling system flushed (it is still a very dark brown color) and a few oil changes at the local Jiffy Lube.

Otherwise, the only other thing is the aborted attempt by a "mechanic" to replace the A/C compressor before he determined a "phantom" bracket was missing.  At this time I believe the system was evacuated and the top side disassembled since there are several missing pieces of hardware (nuts, bolts and washers) and the hoses look clean as though being deliberately handled.

Answer
The FIRST thing you need to do is CLEAR (erase this F32 code from the computer and then jumper the A/C relay and using a set of A/C gages see if you have enough freon in the system.

Sounds like you have a leak in the A/C system which is causing the F32 code.

You will need, If necessary, Electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture.  I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
