Cadillac Repair: 2000 Escalade Eletrical Problems..., engine cranks, battery cables

Question
This is a continuation of our thread.  To restate my problem, I have a 2000 Escalade.  We have had a few incidents lately where it will loose all power (Engine & Electrical) while we are driving it.  The car will start back up, but may just cut out and die again later.

So far I have checked that all the battery cables are well connected.  Your last follow up to my question was:

"Charge the battery with a battery charger and see if the engine will crank over as you try and start it. If it CRANKS OVER ok but does not start let me know and we can perform some simple tests.

QUESTION:

1. Does the engine crank over ?.

2. Does the engine start ?.

3. Is all you hear when trying to start the car is a CLICK noise or do you hear nothing .
"

The car starts and runs fine, it just periodically dies while you are driving it.  That is the scary part.  You can just be running down the road and it will die.  The engine dies, as does all the electrical.  You can typically start it right back up, but it may take a try or two.  So to answer your questions specifically:

1. Does the engine crank over ?.
Answer - Yes the engine cranks over

2. Does the engine start ?.
Answer - Yes the engine starts

3. Is all you hear when trying to start the car is a CLICK noise or do you hear nothing .
Answer - The engine starts just fine.  The problem is that it will die some time later.

The problem doesn't happen every time.  It happened first one time a couple of weeks ago.  Then about two days ago it did it to my wife three times in about a two hour period.

ANSWER: OK, when this fault happens, Do you lose TOTAL electrical power to   ALL dash components, Radio, headlights, interior lights, power windows, power seats OR does the engine just quit and you still have dash warning lights and all you have to do is shift it into neutral and restart the engine ?.

Stay with me, I am trying to get all the information I need.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: We lose TOTAL electrical power.  For example after the last event, the radio clock reset to 12:00, etc.  However, we can typically start the car right back up.

Answer
If ALL your positive and negative battery cables and related wiring at the junction blocks and starter are clean and tight the only other possibility would be is an internal battery fault, Especially if the headlights go out at the same time.

Without personally running some test procedures personally it is quite difficult to make an exact cause.
