Cadillac Repair: instrument panel wont light up, cadillac eldorado, fuel guage

i bought a 1986 cadillac eldorado and the digital dash wont light up (speedometer, fuel guage, driver information center heating/ac unit etc all do not come on) when starting or with key turned to the first position (like when you want to have the radio on or roll up windows or whatever without turning the engine on) the system indicators light up (meaning the check engine lights etc, but they dont show any warnings that stay lit) and every time i turn it on the check driver information center light comes on (but the information center itself doesnt light up) headlights, dome and door lights all work.

You need to remove the instrument panel and perform some simple test procedures on the input and output connectors that attach to the back of the instrument panel.
