QuestionHello my 93 Deville started to cut off periodically a couple months ago. Since then it has started to cut off more frequently, and now only starts when it wants to.I had the battery,alternator,and starter tested and they came back fine. The only variable I can think of is that more problems occur when it is colder outside. Any Ideas on where to begin?
AnswerCould be fuel pump and or no spark to the spark plugs.
IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light on the dash ever illuminated while driving the car ?
Next time this occurs, check for spark at one of the spark plugs and see if you have it as you try and start the engine.
You can also:
Fuel pump test:
1. Get yourself a helper.
2. remove the gas cap.
3. have one person listen in the gas tank at the gas cap opening.
4. have the other person turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY so as the dash lights come on. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.
5. As soon as the ignition key is turned to the ON position, The person at the gas tank should hear the fuel pump run for TWO SECONDS and then it should STOP.
6. Does it ?.
If you do NOT hear it run, in most cases the fault is the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump..
