Cadillac Repair: 94 concourse trans removal, pan gasket, independent repair

Question
hey guy, I am a small independent repair facility in southern OH. I originally refused a oil pan gasket job on a 94 concourse 4.6 and after the IRS got done w/ me I took the job, The engine and trans are hanging from above ,they are tilted to the driver side as to allow removal all of the bell housing bolts are out (even the one closest to the drivers foot) EVERYTHING is ready to go. The trans will not loosen up and I can see the starter bendix behind the flywheel from belo w but cant find the starter, Is that what is keeping the trans from coming out. I,m 48 years old and have been doing this SH** all my life and I've never seen a car more tech unfriendly. Please get back w/ me Thanks.

Answer
The starter is under the big aluminum cover right in the middle of the engine.

You probably have the starter hung up in the flywheel. Remove the big aluminum cover as described above and remove the starter.

there are 3 long bolts and 1 short bolt that holds the trans to the engine.

You MUST remove the starter as it bolts into the trans.
