QUESTION: I have a 93 cadillac fleetwood brougham and the car runs perfectly fine, when it wants to. It will start sometimes and not others. Ill be driving along and the car will just die on me. sometimes it starts right back up and other times it has to sit for hours before it decides it wants to. I have replaced every sensor, wiring harness, in tank fuel pump wiring harness, distributor, cap, wires, plugs and still does the same thing. Any idea what could be wrong with this vehicle? Is there a common problem with these like this or what? I appreciate any help you can give me thank you

ANSWER: When the engine will not start are you losing spark to the spark plugs or fuel to the engine ?.

QUESTION: I got both spark and fuel and timing was just set on it when it was running replaced new fuel pump and wiring harness and it will not start at all now

Answer
Fuel pump test:

1. Get yourself a helper.

2. remove the gas cap.

3. have one person listen in the gas tank at the gas cap opening.

4. have the other person turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY so as the dash lights come on. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.

5. As soon as the ignition key is turned to the ON position, The person at the gas tank should hear the fuel pump run for TWO SECONDS and then it should STOP.

6. Does it ?.


If you do NOT hear it run, in most cases the fault is the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump..
