Cadillac Repair: 92 caddy heatercore replacement, change tubes, service bulletins

Question
I have 92 seden deville , 4.9 Im only getting warm air out of pass side of defoster and cold air out of driver side. Both hoses seem hot on heater core.  I changed thermastat and flused syst a couple of times Still no change I was told to replace core. Is this the case and if so how hard of a job is it and ware do i start THANKS!

Answer
Hi Dominick,

Actually the place to start would be to just flush the heater core itself. Remove both hoses from the core and using a garden hose end mender along with the flushing kit hose adapter and a 2 foot length of hose attach the 3 together. Then hook up your harden hose to it and slide the hose assembly on one of the heater hose tubes, turn the water on and see if you get a good flow. Then change tubes and flush again. You might need to do this several times in each direction in order to get good flow. Once you get good flow hook up the hoses, fill the cooling system back up and run the engine to see what kind of heat you get.

If that doesn't do it then replacing the core isn't too bad a job. I would recommend using the alldata.com website for a shop manual and then you can print whatever you need from your computer and take it to the car. It would be the same info your mechanic has and along with service bulletins...there might even be one that addresses this problem...would pay for itself after 1 job.

        Hope that helps. Bill
