Cadillac Repair: 1991 cadillac deville heater, heater control valve, plastic vacuum

Question
I had a new heater control valve put on car and now heat is crazy hot all the time.  How do I get it to be controlled?  you turn it on and it just goes to very hot with no temperature control.  What do i do?

Answer
You have a problem with the AC/HEATER PROGRAMMER which is located behind the glove box and has a threaded metal rod attached from it to the damper door and at the bottom of the programmer is a bundle of different colored plastic vacuum lines.

If you remove the glove box liner, You will see this metal threaded rod.

When you put your system on FULL HEAT the metal rod should come towards you about 2 to 3 inches and stop and you should have heat.

When you put your system on full AC while watching this metal rod it will go away from you towards the engine compartment in about 2 to 3 inches and stop and you should have full AC.

If the metal rod does NOT move or moves with a clicking sound this would be a faulty PROGRAMMER which will have to be replaced and adjusted.
