Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Quest, test drive 3, nissan quest

Question
Recently had rotors & drums turned and replaced brake pads & shoes.  Seemed fine on test drive. 3 days later, started hearing a cyclic thumping/knocking sound coming from right/rear when brakes applied. The cyclic frequency slows as the vehicle slows.  I pulled the drums back off, everything seems fine.  I had someone apply brakes with drum off.  I seems as if the piston for the leading shoe doesn't extend at the same rate or as far as the trailing shoe.  Don't know if that's normal with the drum off or not.  But the left side (that has no noise) acts the same way with the drum off.  I put the drums back on and adjusted till I started getting slight friction on the drum.  The cyclic thump is still there.  Any suggestions as to what I may be missing or what might just have coincidently started happening since I changed the brakes ?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Mike -

I would look for a misaligned lining, or hardware. I know brakes are designed for one shoe to work against the other, so they may not travel the same distance when the barke is applied.

Determine if it is the right or left side, and then take it apart to look for the part of the hardware or lining that is touching the drum when the car is in motion, brakes applied.

Hope this helps -
