Cadillac Repair: ABS Brakes (Tevis System), front brake caliper, rubber brake hose

Question
1989 Eldorado with ABS brakes. When applying brakes for an emergency type of stop. (slamming on the brakes @15 MPH), the right front tire skids.  The other three wheels go into the ABS mode with no skidding. No codes on diagnostics or the ABS data link under the dash. This is a consistant occurance.  Thanks in advance!

Answer
Your fault is in most cases an internal failure of the right front brake hose and or a faulty brake caliper.

Over time the brake hoses start to get soft internally although they look perfectly fine when viewed from the outside.

What happens is that the hose collapses internally and naturally when you step on the brake there is a great amount of pressure from the brake fluid that it will allow passage of the fluid thru the hose to the caliper.

However, upon release of the brake pedal there is no pressure being applied in the opposite direction and the hose does not allow the brake fluid to return to the master cylinder thus causing the brake to remain applied.

The FIRST thing I would do is replace the rubber brake hose at the brake caliper and see if this resolves your problem. If NOT, you will need to rebuild or replace the right front brake caliper.
