Answer
Edwin,
The parking brake release is controlled via a vacuum signal from the Neutral Safety switch/valve assembly. It's right on top of the transaxle where the shifter linkage attaches to it.  Most likely, if your parking brake is not releasing, you may have broken that valve assembly. What's worse is that you most likely also have caused a vacuum leak which can affect the way the engine runs. Check to see if there IS a vacuum leak. If so, plug it if possible. At that point, the only problem you have is most likely the inconvenience of having to manually release the parking brake. I'm pretty sure that valve is integrated into the park/neutral switch though, so that would mean that you'll be replacing the whole thing. Very simple R&R procedure but nevertheless a little more expense than you probably want to have. Also verify the switch wasn't damaged since without it, you "could" have a problem starting the engine.
