Cadillac Repair: 1993 Eldorado, cadillac eldorado, kent moore

Question
Is it true that the only way to replace a 1993 Cadillac ElDorado Northstar engine is for it to dropped out of the bottom of the car? I was told that's why it's taking so long to get my brother's engine replaced. He was told that working on it ties up a bay so they've put him off for months.

Answer
Hi Alice,

The first northstar engine I took out I removed out the top by itself and found it was a very tight/shoehorned fit. The next 6 I took them all out the bottom and found it was so much easier.

So in answer to your question...no. You can remove the engine only from the top. Or raise the body off the engine/trans/cradle while it rests on jack stands and then remove the engine and place it on a stand to work on it.

At that point it will tie up a bay/hoist unless the shop has the wheeled front end dolly from Kent Moore Tools that bolts up where the cradle used to be and then the car can be moved outside or somewhere out of the way. Doing an engine swap should take 2-3 days start to finish once all the parts are there.

Maybe its time to find a shop that does them on a regular basis and then your brother can be driving again. Bill
