Cadillac Repair: De Ville 1999, heater hoses, climate control

Question
QUESTION: The climate-control on driver side doesn't work, when changing temperature the fan goes crazy but its getting no colder. Cool air coming all the time on passenger side.
Second problem is that the intermittent wiper only  goes once on activation.
The car is a -99 D'elegance and I'm sitting in Sweden and hoping that it is something that I can fix myselves .
Thanks in advance   Janne

ANSWER: Janne,
So you're saying that the fan control is working but temp control isn't? Are you trying to get heat? Make sure the coolant is topped off, and then verify the heater hoses are BOTH hot.
As for the wipers, Start by verifying the connections at the wiper motor cover. This is where the timing board is located. A bad ground can cause the problem you noted.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick answer and the eminent service you provide.
Sorry for not been so  clear in my question. My problem is when I try to cool the cabin, while driving there's only uncold air on driver side, but chill ac-air on passenger side.
When I try to lower temp on driver side, the only thing happens is that the fan goes bananas on top speed. There's no colder air coming. Btw its in auto mode when it happens.
Jepp, the fan control seems just fine and the heat is coming sooner than any vehicle I  ever had. To me it seems as the car is trying to cool down the cabin with fan on top speed, but since its not getting any cold air the temp will not getting down in cabin and the fan stays on full speed.
Thanks again   Janne

ANSWER: Janne,
Sounds like the split climate control is malfunctioning. To be honest, there's not a lot you can do yourself on this. Getting into that system may require the removal of the dash assembly, something that's generally beyond the scope of the average DIY'r. If you wish to take this on, let me know and I'll try to get you through it.

QUESTION: Yepp, I think that I might take the dashboard apart.....I would truly appreciate guidens trough the operation thow I can't see many screws thereunder.
Baut my scill so do I have a smaller autobodyworkshop, I repair bumps and weld rost  ;-) and been a hobby mecanic ca 35 of my 50 years. I have my limitations, I defenetly not a supermecanic I maight add. I mostly have done work on cars from the 50  and 60:s. I never owned such a new vehicle as this D'elegance. And Harleys, but same there. Not newer than Shovel until I started to fix a bike to my wife. That had  to be a Evo.
Thanks again   Janne

Answer
Janne,
Okay. First suggestion I have is to take it to the dealer or a shop that specializes in heating and A/C for a little diagnostic time. I know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear but to be completely honest with you, in a situation like this, it's quite possible that the problem might be relatively minor and easily found by a professional. If so, you get the thing fixed quick and fairly cheap, without the possibility of damage being done by you while trying an OJT repair. If not, you get a diagnosis that hopefully will at the very least narrow down the scope of what I'll have to walk you through.
So what do you think? Does this make sense to you?
