Cadillac Repair: Brake Repair, hydraulic actuator, actuator assembly

Question
In my 89 Cadillac deville , the brake light/ abs icon went on and my hydraulic actuator assembly kept pumping and killed my battery. I would like to know is this a brake caliper problem because I went to try to bleed the front only the driver side bled, the passenger side had only a minimum small amount of fluid come out. There is also a loud humming noise coming from the hydralic is the actuator screwed?

Answer
Trevor,
The fact that it's making noise as you say, DOES point to a component failure. Have you checked the electrical connections on it? Verify the ground connection especially. They tend to break. As far as bleeding goes, are you trying it with the key on, or off? The key should be off, and if you don't get much fluid at the bleeder, try moving upstream. Loosen the hose at the caliper, then move upstream to verify it's not a clogged caliper hose. If all this fails to produce any alternative points of failure, then it probably is time to replace the actuator but if it were me, I'd probably have a pro verify it's NOT an electrical problem first, before you go to the expense of replacing the actuator only to find the problem persists.
