Answer   Fault in 4th gear clutch pack. Trans will have to come out and be disassembled

I had tranny replaced with a used one from Cherry Auto Parts, shifts ok, but getting Service Transmission warning, Code PCO 741, what is that, and could it be left over from last tranny???      Thanks  Dave

Answer   David,
Probably not. The codes are cleared with power-down (battery disconnect), and that should've been done when they pulled the trans. If not, it's possible. That code refers to the TCC being stuck off. Is it going into lock-up?-----------------------------------------------------
My question now would be I don't understand "is it going to lock up" Does it mean it will if I drive it, and then what happens if it does. Cherry Auto guy says drive it and see>       Thanks  Dave Pfeiffer

Answer
Hi David, My experience with the transmission is pretty limited. However I have had experience where the trans had first gear , missed second and went into third. What happens is there are 2 shift solenoids and one of them could be malfunctioning. It could be that the resistance of the solenoid is wrong and it doesn't operate or it is operating but the valve doesn't move because it has something jamming it up. Most times when I measure the 2 solenoids one of them has too much resistance and the repair is to replace them both and all is well again. Hopefully that is the case with yours. You could take it back to where the work was done and have them check it out. Or if you have a digital ohmmeter and a wiring diagram it is easy to test yourself. To replace the solenoids requires the bottom pan to be removed and them the solenoids can be replaced.

      Hope that helps. Bill
