Cadillac Repair: HORN, inflator, steering wheel

I HAVE A 1993 STS WITH 58000 MILES.  THE HORN DOES NOT WORK. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT ITS CONTACT ASSEMBLY IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS DAMAGED.  HE SAYS THAT ITS REPLACEMENT REQUIRES REPLACING THE INFLATOR MODULE, A "$700 PART".  IS THIS CORRECT?  SUGGESTIONS?  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

NO, This is NOT true. You can replace the horn ring contacts on the steering wheel. Did he check the horn relay to see if it is operational ?.
