Cadillac Repair: 1995 Sedan Deville, lighting circuit, ground connections

Question
Can you tell me what causes the lights glimmer at times.
Thanks,
Bryant

Answer
Hi Bryant,

I looked up the definition of glimmer which means dim light or flickering light. So here are some reasons why that might happen.

If the lights get dim at idle that is normal because the alternator can't put out alot of amps at 550-700rpm to run all the electronics. The lights should come back to full bright if you give the engine some gas.

The serpentine belt might be slipping such as if you drove through water and that would cause a dimmer light.

Poor ground connections will cause poor light on that side no matter the rpm.

Alternator diodes if defective can cause flickering at any rpm but at faster rpms you go you might not notice it.

A bad connection or loose connection anywhere in the lighting circuit can cause problems.

Hopefully that answers your question. Bill
