Cadillac Repair: 2002 deville a/c issue, floor vents, degree air

Question
Hey i recently got my a/c serviced and had my a/c blower motor replaced. When i recieved the car back it stoped blowing out of the vents but blows out of the floor vents and also the defrost vents and blows cold also but when i switch it to "vent mode" (regular a/c mode blowing out of the vents) it makes a clicking sound as if its trying to switch from defrost to reg. vent mode and then stops and stays in defrost mode. I was told by someone that it could be the a/c temp actuvator not switching over. If thats the case why would the a/c be blowing cold and not allowing the vents to open up to the dash? everything else works defrost, floor vents, but like i said when i switch it to dash vent mode nothing comes out and just makes a ticking noise. Any input would greatly be appreciated. THANK YOU!

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

There aren't any switches under the dash that you can flip to make the motor work...eithor it does or it doesn't.

The sequence of events that happen when you push for the a/c and 60 degree air from the vents are as follows.

1) The contol head sends a voltage signal to the a/c compressor to turn on.
2) The blower motor turns on at the speed requested.
3) A signal is sent to the programmer and it sends a signal to the mode door motors to move the air door motors so the air comes out the vents.

If anything is broken/inoperative then something won't happen to allow the a/c to turn on at the place you want it. In your case it might be stripped gears in the vent door motor. And the motor needs to be replaced. Sometimes you can remove the motor and hold the linkage so the air comes out the vent until the motor is ordered but that is only a short term fix. The thing to do is replace the motor if it is needed and saveing the $500 labor costs would be nice.

A shop manual would be a good idea at this point so what I would reccommend is to go to alldata.com and subscribe to the manual for your car. That way you will have all the info needed to make the repair available at your computor that can be printed out and taken to the car so it can be repaired.

      Hope that helps. Bill
