Cadillac Repair: cadillac cts repair, cadillac cts, exhaust gasket

Question
Ok. so i had my 2003 cadillac cts taken to an auto repair shop because it would not turn over. at times it would start, then it wouldn't start at all. my husband changed the fuel filter and put in a new battery. the car started, but then would not start again. so off to the shop it went. they notified me that it was the fuel pump, and informed me of the price it would be to repair. they fixed the fuel pump, i picked it up today, drove it to mall, came out of mall, it wouldn't start. i called them then, he informed me that while my car was there the new battery had to be charged at one point, something was draining it, or there was a bad connection to the battery, or alternator. so, at this point i'm feeling like it was never the fuel pump. i went back by the auto repair shop on way home, they said the battery had a charge and to leave it running for approx 1hr to get it completely charged. i did that, then turned it off. we again turned the car on and put it in the garage. i went out again to drive the car, and it did exactly the same thing it had been doing before it went to the repair shop. would not start, would not turn completely over. also while i was driving the car earlier i heard a ticking noise. i called the owner again, he said it was an exhaust gasket that they couldn't find the part to replace, so they used the old one not knowing if it would hold up. apparently it didn't, and he acknowledged that.
so, i want my money ($925) back for the repair that was done and did not fix the car. how do i go about that? i plan on just telling the owner my expectations. he said he would check the car again on monday. but i'm convinced that it was not the fuel pump to begin with. i also dont expect to pay anything additional for any other connection repair that's done. is that feasible? please tell me what i should do.
the owner assured me they were updated on cadillac repairs. he also stated that once they thought it was the fuel pump, they didn't look for anything further with the car.

Answer
Hi Heather,

Thank you for the nice comments. I am finding that women are alot more knowlegable about how a car works...even more so than some men...so I try not to get too technical but at the same time try not to be too basic eithor with my answers.

Congradulations on doing your own repairs. Its good that you can save some money and with the help of a site such as this find out how something works so that you can do a repair that you would otherwise have to take to the shop. Hope you had a good understanding with the shop owner today. Bill
