Question
i have a 1986 cadillac deville sedan and i have a problem with my power sterring i put steeering fluid in it a week ago and it was low  and a week later it seems like its low again so i put more in it again is there a way to find out if the steering pump is broken or i have a leak

Answer
Hi Jamal,

When you have to keep adding p/s fluid it has to be going somewhere. You will need to do an inspection with the car safely up on stands or ramps and see if there is any fluid leaking. If not, what I suspect is happening is that the p/s rack bushings are worn out and fluid is getting past then and collecting inside the boots at the end of the rack. You could take a clamp loose and move the boot back and see if you get alot of fluid out. If so then replaceing the rack is the way to go and an alignment will also need to be done. Of course you could reinstall the clamp and continue to add fluid until it really lets loose.

Hopefully I have been of some help. Bill
